Chris Fenton Audio

Enthusiastic instructor, musician, and audio engineer with diverse background in recording, live sound, and music production. Beginning with diy-roots in Northern Virginia he’s developed an in-depth understanding of audio and production through his studies and work at Shenandoah Conservatory. After graduating in 2019 he interned under Steve Albini at Electrical Audio, Chicago IL and Bob Dawson at Bias Studios, Washington DC. Through the COVID-19 pandemic he’s found his way back into academics as Staff Engineer and Studio advisor at his alma mater. He holds his role between artists and their work’s permanence in high regard working closely with his clients along the entire production process and keeps their intentions above all else.

(Winter 2020) Recorded in the Bake Sale Hotties home

Drums and guitars tracked together and then bass and vocals were overdubbed in. Drums were recorded in the living room with a stere pair and harmonica mic on the floor for room reverb. Guitar was recorded through two amps isolated in the closet a room over from the drums.

Inspired by the recording works of Fred Plaut, the band played together in one room situated with minimal isolation to remove the barrier of performing with headphones.

(Winter 2018) Recorded in my college home for their second EP.

Base band tracks were recorded together with a minimal setup before more experimental home recording techniques were used in overdubs. This a more effected mix of mine.

(Fall 2019) Recorded in my parents foyer for our first demo release.

I don’t like playing with headphones so we packed into the foyer all together and jammed out ideas as part of our third band practice then cheated with editing for better flow.

(Fall 2016) Recorded live at Shenandoah University’s Goodson Chapel for Remote Recording Practicum class.

Recorded with traditional stereo microphone techniques to capture the natural expression of the concert. Care was put into having an unobtrusive setup to the audience and performers.

(Fall 2017) Recorded in the Lucid Lynx Virginia practice space for their first LP.

Band recorded together in full-takes on a tight schedule before overdubs were done that winter. I remixed this track after the release of the album with a more minimal approach.
